Monthly and yearly profit on National Savings schemes, before and after withholding tax. Updated 7 Nov 2026.
National Savings schemes are run by the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) for the Government of Pakistan, so the capital is backed by the state. Profit rates are revised often, usually following T-bill and PIB yields after the State Bank's rate decisions. The rates below are those announced on 21 October 2026; always check the current rate before investing. The calculator shows the profit for any amount before and after withholding tax, and lets you edit the rate.
| Scheme | Profit rate | Profit on Rs 10 lakh a month, before tax | After 15% tax | Paid | Who can invest |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Behbood Savings Certificates | 12.96% | Rs 10,800 | Rs 9,180 | Monthly | Widows, senior citizens (60+), disabled persons and special persons |
| Pensioners' Benefit Account | 12.96% | Rs 10,800 | Rs 9,180 | Monthly | Retired government and other pensioners |
| Shuhada Family Welfare Account | 12.96% | Rs 10,800 | Rs 9,180 | Monthly | Families of shuhada |
| Regular Income Certificates | 12.12% | Rs 10,100 | Rs 8,585 | Monthly | Anyone |
| Special Savings Certificates | 12.00% | Rs 10,000 | Rs 8,500 | Every six months (12.8% on the final payment) | Anyone |
| Short Term Savings Certificates, 3 months | 11.12% | Rs 9,267 | Rs 7,877 | At maturity | Anyone |
Defence Savings Certificates pay all profit at the end: the 10-year certificate returns 215% in total (Rs 10 lakh becomes Rs 31.5 lakh before tax), with lower totals if encashed earlier (88% at 6 years, 113% at 7, 142% at 8 and 176% at 9).
Withholding tax is deducted from each profit payment. The rate depends on the scheme and on whether you are on the Active Taxpayers List; some schemes for pensioners, widows and families of shuhada have had a lower rate. The calculator uses 15% by default; change it to match your case.
National Savings give a fixed, government-backed income, which suits retirees and anyone who needs predictable monthly cash. Their rates move with interest rates, so they fall after rate cuts. Shares offer dividends that can grow, plus the chance of capital gains, but the value goes up and down. Compare the income from a dividend portfolio with the dividend calculator, and see how either keeps up with prices with the inflation calculator.
